Following a sold-out run at this year’s New Zealand International Comedy Festival, acclaimed actor and writer Morgana O’Reilly (Mean Mums, The White Lotus) is bringing the filmed adaptation of her acclaimed one-woman show Stories About My Body to cinemas around the country, with a special tour of advance screenings and Q&As ahead of its nationwide release on 30 July.
Captured live on stage, Stories About My Body is an intimate, hilarious and unexpectedly moving exploration of our relationships with our bodies – how we inhabit them, fight with them, celebrate them, and carry the stories they hold.
With characteristic warmth, candour and razor-sharp wit, O’Reilly unpacks everything from illness, ageing and motherhood to shame, identity and resilience, inviting audiences into a conversation that is both deeply personal and strikingly universal.
Following an overwhelmingly positive response during its sold-out Comedy Festival season, audiences around the country now have the opportunity to be among the first to experience Stories About My Body on the big screen and join O’Reilly for special post-screening conversations before the film opens nationwide on 30 July.
“I was blown away by the response to the Comedy Festival season,” says O’Reilly. “These stories seem to spark something in people – laughter, recognition, relief, connection. I cannot wait to take our little film around the country. I’m thrilled I get to meet audiences and have some great conversations before it opens in cinemas nationwide.”
Special event screenings and Q&As will take place at the following venues, offering audiences an early opportunity to experience Stories About My Body ahead of its nationwide release on 30 July, with additional cinemas and Q&A dates to be announced in the coming weeks:
