Backrooms continued to play well, ending its second weekend in the top spot, and playing 75 screens for $480,550 to take its earnings here to $1,731,702. In 10 days in cinemas, the film has become A24’s biggest-ever earner, passing US$200 million globally.
Obsession also played well, climbing to the #2 spot by earning $416,737 from 53 screens, and lifting its total take to $1,346,827.
Holding steady at #3, Michael played 93 screens, adding $295,046 for $6,602,390.
Caterpillar dropped to #14,taking $23,095 from 49 screens and pushing its gross to $298,298.
The Time Travellers Guide to Hamilton Gardens placed at #23 and played 23 screens, adding $6,585 to extend its total to $174,461.
Sgt. Haane took $3,496 from 19 screens, and now has $277,172 in total earnings.
On 11 screens, Moss & Freud added $2,134 for $13,108.
Tenor: My Name is Pati played 10 screens, earning $1,138 and has now taken $1,123,506.
The Weed Eaters played 7 screens, adding $437 for $49,854.
On a single screen, Bookworm reappeared to take $132 for a total of $468,958.
Openers this week include Steven Spielberg’s thriller Disclosure Day and highly-recommended Korean zombie-ish horror Colony from Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan).
