NZ Box Office Report: 26 April 2026

Time for change at the top, as Michael arrives, on 115 screens. Despite some pretty atrocious reviews, $1,017,497 on its opening weekend, for $1,194,693 in total.

On a round 100 screens, Project Hail Mary held steady at #2, taking $276,987 on the weekend and pushing its cume to $5,374,023.

Last weekend’s #1, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, dropped to #3. It added $175,125 from 107 screens, for a total to date of $4,193,339.

Tenor: My Name is Pati played 60 screens and placed at #10, earning $29,260 for a gross of $1,031,474.

At #19, Holy Days played 29 screens, adding $5,138 for $575,308.

On 7 screens, Fackham Hall, starring Thomasin McKenzie, added $2,345 to push its total to $695,009.

Also on 7 screens, the 10th anniversary release of Hunt for the Wilderpeople added $1,095 for $106,394.

Doco No Tears on the Field played 5 screens for $711, lifting its total to $53,816.

A fairly loud court case doesn’t seem to be helping Rebel Wilson’s feature The Deb, which took $568 for a gross of $20,838.

Four more locals had a single screen outing, with Marama adding $505 for $205,492; Peter Jackson’s They Shall Not Grow Old taking $270 for $820,812; Edward Sampson’s Devils on Horses adding $201 for $2,655; and Not Only Fred Dagg adding $177 for a total of $461,332.

Openers this week include The Devil Wears Prada 2 … and three NZ titles: Sgt Haane, The Time Traveller’s Guide to Hamilton Gardens and The Weed Eaters.
