Verticals: How a $175,000 Production Could Change Louisiana’s Film Industry Forever

In 2011, Baton Rouge served as the production home for The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts 1 & 2. With an estimated combined production budget of $240 million, those two teen vampire drama films, which shot back-to-back at Celtic Studios, went on to gross more than $1.5 billion worldwide at the box office.

Despite the tens of millions in motion picture tax credits the production earned by spending money in Louisiana, almost none of those profits made their way back to Louisiana residents, largely because the films were financed by sources from outside our state. The same is true for the overwhelming majority of the hundreds of productions that have filmed in Louisiana since then.

After more than two decades of helping create Academy Award winners and commercial successes for content creators from out of state—and after issuing ten figures in film tax credits—we now have a “Geauxlden Opportunity” to change the game.
