In the lead up to this year’s festival, Tropfest will run a two-day industry initiative at NIDA designed to assist emerging filmmakers to build sustainable creative careers.
Dubbed Tropfest Roughcut, the “market-readiness accelerator” is supported by Screen Australia and YouTube, and will feature keynotes, panel discussions, case studies and workshops. While the full program is yet to be announced, sessions will explore craft, audience, platforms, financing, creative development and the evolving screen landscape.
Tropfest previously ran a one-day filmmaking symposium under the same name from 2012 to 2015.
“Tropfest Roughcut is two days of big ideas, creative insights, and practical tools for filmmakers stepping into the next phase of their careers,” said Tropfest director and founder John Polson.
