Sky and Sony grow partnership

Sky New Zealand and Sony Pictures Television have recently expanded their partnership with new first-run TV series and extended their movie deal that brings premium drama, blockbuster films, and much-loved library titles from one of the world’s leading studios first to Sky and NEON audiences (after their theatrical and home entertainment windows).

The agreement secures a significant slate of exclusive, first-run scripted dramas for Sky and NEON, including The Lady, playing On Demand on NEON and Sky from 24 February, a four‑part drama charting the extraordinary rise and fall of former royal dresser Jane Andrews, who entered Buckingham Palace as Sarah Ferguson’s aide before her life unravelled in a tragic and notorious murder case.

Later in 2026, Sky and NEON audiences can look forward to American Hostage, a 1970s psychological thriller starring Jon Hamm as Indianapolis radio reporter Fred Heckman, who became the central figure in a real-life, high stakes 63-hour hostage crisis.

Sky recently extended its long-standing movie deal with Sony Pictures, enhancing the breadth and depth of movies available first on Sky, NEON and Sky Open, following theatrical and home entertainment windows. Customers can expect an even stronger line-up of fan favourite titles from Sony Pictures’ robust library and also upcoming and recent releases, following their theatrical and home entertainment windows, such as Materialists, 28 Years Later, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025), the Karate Kid franchise including Karate Kid: Legends (2025), Caught Stealing and Anaconda.

Sky continues to be the home of the Outlander universe – one of Sky’s top performing series and most loved franchises – reflecting our data-led focus on securing the stories New Zealanders watch most. The final season of Outlander drops on 7 March, while Outlander: Blood of My Blood will return with a second season. Plus, the full Outlander catalogue remains on Sky and NEON.

Beyond first run content, the partnership will bolster Sky and NEON’s library slate, with hundreds of hours of programming, including the addition of Community (exclusive to Sky) alongside well-known titles such as Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul (both exclusive on Sky and NEON), The TudorsDawson’s Creek and S.W.A.T. which isavailable for the first time on Sky.

Sky Head of Entertainment, Fiona Murray, says the expanded partnership reflects Sky’s commitment to delivering world-class storytelling to New Zealand audiences.  “This agreement deepens one of our valued studio relationships and brings further stability and scale to our premium drama and movies offerings. Our customers want the very best international content, and this partnership ensures Sky and NEON remain the preferred destinations for exceptional entertainment.”

“We’re delighted to build on our longstanding and successful relationship with Sky in New Zealand through this multi-year expanded deal. Sky has been a long-term valued collaborator, and this renewed agreement reflects the strength of our partnership and our shared ambition to bring premium, must-watch television and film to audiences across the country,” said Adam Herr, SVP Distribution, Asia-Pacific, Sony Pictures Television.
