Notable milestones include the introduction of a new rebate scheme for the game development sector, the expansion of the Screen Production Rebate to benefit local productions receiving NZ On Air funding, and a comprehensive review of the Music funding streams. These initiatives reflect NZ On Air’s commitment to fostering innovation, sustainability, and growth in New Zealand’s cultural landscape.

Diversity Report

The Diversity Report for Scripted and Non-Fiction projects funded in 2023/24 has also been published. Covering 212 projects, the report shows progress in representation across key creative roles. Notably, there has been an increase in above-the-line positions held by Māori, Pasifika, and Middle Eastern, Latin American, or African (MELAA) creatives. However, the report also highlights the continued under-representation of Asian creatives, indicating areas where further focus is needed.

These insights provide a valuable snapshot of the ongoing efforts to ensure inclusivity and diversity in New Zealand’s screen industry. NZ On Air remains committed to fostering a creative sector that reflects the rich diversity of Aotearoa.
