Shot here, and with a considerable number of Kiwis sprinkled through the credits, Predator: Badlands opened here on a modest 87 screens, but comfortably won the weekend with a take of $353,250. Plus previews, it’s sitting at $381,340.
Local champ Pike River added $189,442 on 118 screens to place second on its second weekend, and has now grossed $831,119. On its performance so far, and especially only dropping 25% against its opening weekend numbers, it’s looking like it will pass a million in a couple of weeks.
Regretting You took third place, adding $87,399 from 84 screens, and has now grossed $698,960.
No other local title troubled the top ten, but Prime Minister has demonstrated considerable staying power. At #12, as it was last weekend, it played 57 screens for a take of $18,118, pushing its total to $992,668.
Aussie’s best box office performer of the year, Kangaroo, took $3,430 over the weekend here, and now has a total of $644,637.
James Cleary’s local indie What Lies Between opened on 2screens, taking $2,844.
Deathgasm II: Goremageddon had a couple of outings in Terror-Fi, taking $1,067. You’d assume that, as those were its NZ premiere screenings, they were heavily papered and the turnouts considerably more impressive than the take would suggest.
Local indie The Tavern took $946 from a single screen, and has now grossed $24,496.
Grace: A Prayer for Peace took $671 from 5 screens, and has now earned $41,342.
Down in the depths of the chart, two local features each played a single screen. Bookworm added $132 too lift its gross to $468,826; Workmates added $90 for $26,803.
12 years on from Now You See Me, the week’s new arrivals include Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. With several cast members – including Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg – returning for another magician-themed romp; another go at The Running Man; and the film of the show of the history that is Hamilton.
Our thanks, as always, go to Numero for providing the data that powers our box office reporting.
