Deadpool & Wolverine continued to hold the top spot, playing 116 screens and adding $1,607,130 for a total of $4,955,300. As happened last weekend, its earnings comfortably beat the combined earnings of every other title playing over the weekend.
Inside Out 2 also held on, at #2, taking $180,293 off 103 screens, to lift its total take to $8,477,237.
M. Night Shayamalan’s latest, Trap, opened on 73 screens, ending the weekend in the #3 spot, with takings of $123,792.
Blackpink’s cancellation of the NZ stop on last year’s world tour possibly didn’t help sales for Born Pink, the movie of the tour, which opened on 21 screens and took $13,208 over the weekend. By comparison, Taylor Swift: The ERAS Tour took $665,000 on its opening weekend here last October.
Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End continued on 45 screens, adding $12,331 to lift its gross to $835,539.
The Mountain returned, on a single screen, taking $200 to total $737,118.
This week’s openers include Ant Timpson’s South Island-shot Bookworm, starring Elijah Wood and Nell Fisher, which has been enjoying a few early screenings over the last week after a successful premiere in Canada at Fantasia, and Sony’s based-on-the-video-game title Borderlands, with a cast of heavy-hitters including Cate Blanchett, Kevin Hart, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jack Black.
As always, huge thanks to Numero for the data that powers our box office reports.
