F1 The Movie took pole position, the chequered flag and plenty of other car-racing clichés to end its opening weekend at #1. From 115 screens, it took $1,261,626 including about $7K from previews.
The previous weekend’s #1, How to Train Your Dragon, dropped one spot to #2. Also on 115 screens, it added $450,787 for a total so far of $2,881,749.
Also dropping one spot was the previous weekend’s #2, 28 Years Later. It took $202,984 from 84 screens, and has earned $745,605.
The Gerard Johnstone-directed M3gan2.0 opened on 76 screens, earning $81,048 on its opening weekend.
Kath Akuhata-Brown’s Kōkā played 69 screens, adding $34,998 to lift its total to $167,311.
After 18 weeks in cinemas, Tinā added $5,767 from 29 screens for a gross take of $6,420,297.
Encanto Reo Māori returned to two cinema screens over the weekend, taking $1,680 to grow its gross to $231,499.
Down to a single screen, Moana 2 took $1,668 for a gross of $10,193,932.
Marlon Williams: Ngā Ao E Rua – Two Worlds added $1,020 from 9 screens, for a gross of $225,181.
Indie drama The People We Love played 6 screens, earning $855 for a total of $40,530.
This week’s new arrivals include the latest in a very long-running franchise, Jurassic World Rebirth.
