24 years after the release of Bridget Jones’ Diary, the latest title in the franchise, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, ended its second weekend by climbing to the top of the heap, taking $487,758 from 117 screens. It’s now grossed $1,598,949.
Also up one place on the previous weekend, Ne Zha 2 placed at #2, taking $342,435 from 39 screens for a total of $1,328,872.
The previous weekend’s #1, Captain America: Brave New World, rounded out the podium at #3, playing on 98 screens. It earned $329,111 for a gross to date of $1,288,040.
Now down at #20, Moana 2 played 27 screens and added $9,835. It remains the highest-earning title on release, with a total take of $10,170,930.
Four NZ doco titles continued towards the ends of their runs. The Haka Party Incident took $1,317 for $55,806; Alien Weaponry: Kua Tupu Te Ara took $49 for $5,782; Maurice & I added $20 for $351,518; and Never Look Away took $16 for $125,238.
Opening this week is Miki Magasiva’s Tinā, which has played a considerable number of previews over the last week and a half.
