Mufasa: The Lion King took the top spot over the weekend, opening on 116 screens, taking $746,730 for a gross of $829,355 including previews.
After its time at the top, Moana 2 – still on 126 screens – added $619,983 to extend its gross to $7,533,381. Wicked also dropped on place to #3. Its take of $339,581 from 111 screens lifted its total to $4,599,437.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim held steady at #6, playing 86 screens. On its second weekend it added $50,300 to total $206,054.
Lee added $8,838 to gross $1,112,323; Never Look Away added $1,147 for $116,716.
Head South took $606 to gross $21,975. Taki Rua Theatre – Breaking Barriers added $210 from 3 screens, for $3,328. On a single screen, Bookworm took $165 to lift its total to $468,490.
Gut Instinct played 2 screens, earning $72 for a total of $2,790. Maurice & I added $70 from 2 screens, for a gross of $350,641.
Opening on Boxing Day are Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Robbie WIliams biopic Better Man, made with some help from Wētā.
