NZ Box Office report: 20 October 2024

Smile 2 arrived, comfortably taking the top spot on the weekend chart and earning $202,823 off 76 screens.

The previous weekend’s best performer, The Wild Robot, dropped to #2. On 117 screens, it added $123,564 to lift its gross to $2,453,611.

Also falling one spot, to #3, was Transformers One. On 95 screens, it took $59,398 for a total take of $1,485,559.

Aussie family flick Runt continued a successful run, playing 103 screens and adding $21,709 for a total of $446,545.

Among the local titles, Christine Jeffs’ A Mistake dropped 2 places to #14. From 65 screens, it took $18,663 for a total of $92,499.

On 3 screens, Encanto Reo Maori added $1,424 to gross $225,733. 

Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End – one of three local features heading to Wairoa over the Labour Day weekend – played 2 screens, adding $1,300 for a total of $887,962.

We Were Dangerous took $885 from 14 screens, lifting its total to $568,521.

Bookworm played 4 screens, took $249 and now has a total of $465,083.

Two titles each played on a single screen. Stranded Pearl took $49 for $17,354; Camino Skies took $36 to total $343,169.

Among the titles opening this week is biopic Lee, about photographer Lee Miller, who spent her early career as a model and sometime muse for artists including Jean Cocteau, Man Ray and Picasso, then became an acclaimed war correspondent during World War II. Among the film’s producers is expat Finola Dwyer.
