The first weekend of March closed with the welcome sight of a local title at #1. Tinā was on song, topping the chart with $653,271 (including previews) from a very wide release on 127 screens.
The previous weekend’s #1, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy, played on 119 screens as it dropped to #2, adding $301,658 for a total take of $2,102,117.
Steady at #3, Captain America: Brave New World took $177417 from 106 screens, and now has a gross of $1,536,178.
Most other titles with NZ interest gave the weekend a miss, with only three other films in cinemas.
Moana 2 added $7,430 for $10,178,819; The Haka Party Incident added $729 for $111,838; and Sharko took $72 for $18,279.
Several titles which took away Oscars on Monday afternoon (NZ time) also played here over the weekend, including Anora, Conclave, Dune: Part Two, Emilia Pérez, Flow, The Brutalist, The Substance and Wicked.
This week sees new arrivals including Mickey 17 from director Bong Joon-ho (Parasite), with a cast including Robert Pattinson, Toni Colette and Mark Ruffalo; and Aussie dramedy Spit from Jonathan Teplitzky, with a cast led by David Wenham.
