NZ Box Office Report: 19 April 2026

Fot the second weekend running, the top three titles retained their placings. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie again ended the weekend on top of the heap, taking $762,505 from 119 screens for $3,969,846.

Still at #2, Project Hail Mary continued on 111 screens, adding $506,349 to push for a gross to date of $4,980,021.

On 124 screens, The Magic Faraway Tree remained at #3, earning $294,267 for a total of $1,572,730.

On 54 screens, Rebecca Tansley’s doco Tenor: My Name is Pati continued its strong run, ending the weekend at #10 with $39,891 in takings and a total of $979,598.

At #22, nuns on the run tale Holy Days played 23 screens, adding $7,763 and lifting its gross to $564,348.

On 9 screens, and one spot lower at #23, the Thomasin McKenzie-starring Fackham Hall took $4,955 and took its total take to $690,157.

The 10th anniversary release of Hunt for the Wilderpeople played 10 screens for a take of $3,709 and a total of $104,640.

At #26, Rebel Wilson’s The Deb played on 32 screens, taking $2,912 for a total of $19,281.

Indie The Tavern returned on a single screen, earning $680 for $30,290.

Lisa Burd’s Taranaki-shot doco No Tears on the Field played 8 screens, taking $505 for $53,056.

Avatar: Fire and Ash again played a single screen, adding $258 for a gross of $11,527,794.

Also on a single screen, Marama took $222 for $204,987.

Openers this week include Genki Kawamura’s Cannes-premiered psychological thriller Exit 8 and – in the week Tenor: My Name is Pati passed $1 million – Barrie Kosky’s ROH Opera: Siegfried.
