After last weekend saw an all-new top three, this weekend saw only one of those titles hang on to a podium spot.
Taking over the top spot was Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, which played 67 screens. Weekend takings of $767,062 plus a few previews saw it reach $775,908 in total.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale closed its opening weekend at #2, off a much larger 112 screens. It earned $488,955.
Last weekend’s chart-topper The Conjuring: Last Rites dropped to #3. From 79 screens, it added $437,870 to gross $1,652,421 so far.
Of the local titles on release, Life in One Chord was the best performer. It played 20 screens, adding $9,953 to lift its total take to $75,454.
On 10 screens, Workmates took $811 for $24,586.
Following its festival screenings, doco Devils on Horses played a single screen, taking $559.
Also on a single screen, Waikato-shot indie The Tavern added $357 for $17,847.
The House Within added $60 from 5 screens, for a gross of $46,690.
Kōkā and Tinā appear done with their runs, and Tinā arrives on Netflix on Friday (19 September).
Titles opening this week include plenty of school holiday fare – The Bad Guys 2, Dora: Magic Mermaid Adventures and new Aussie feature Kangaroo.
