There was no change in the order of the top three films from last weekend, with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie again on top of the heap, taking $775,876 from 114 screens for $2,535,851.
Still at #2, Project Hail Mary continued on 113 screens, adding $546,354 to push for a gross to date of $4,160,420.
On 123 screens The Magic Faraway Tree remained at #3, earning $254,452 for a total of $1,013,145.
On 59 screens, Rebecca Tansley’s doco Tenor: My Name is Pati continued its strong run, ending the weekend at #8 with $56,150 in takings and a total of $908,713.
At #17, Rebel Wilson’s The Deb opened on 48 screens, taking $9,706.
The 10th anniversary release of Hunt for the Wilderpeople played 39 screens for a take of $8,746, taking its earnings to $95,682 and the #19 spot.
A #20, Holy Days added $8,694 from 25 screens, for a total of $549,982.
At #24, the Thomasin McKenzie-starring Fackham Hall played XX screens, taking $6,689 to push its gross to $681,689.
On a single screen, Avatar: Fire and Ash took $2,219 for a gross of $11,524,708.
Three docos rounded out the local interest on the weekend chart. Lisa Burd’s Taranaki-shot doco No Tears on the Field played 8 screens, taking $1,157 for $51,689. Vanessa Wells’ Mighty Indeed took $323 from a single screen for $12,311. Also on a single screen, Not Only Fred Dagg added $78 for a gross of $461,155.
Openers this week include David Mackenzie’s British crime thriller Fuze and, from the director of Evil Dead Rise, comes Lee Cronin’s The Mummy.
