Marvel’s Thunderbolts* held on top the #1 spot, expanding to 98 screens and taking $472,702 to push past $1.5 million on its second weekend.
At #2, Sinners also held steady, adding $204,511 for a gross of $1,343,346.
Tinā climbed back into the top 3 over the weekend. On 105 screens, it added $140,664 and has now passed $6 million. It has a total take of $6,110,074, although it’ll need some extra legs to climb above Whale Rider on the all-time top ten. Across the ditch, Tinā held on to the #5 spot on its second weekend, and has now taken over AU$2 million there, considerably more than every Aussie feature currently on its first run.
The film Tinā pushed off the podium, A Minecraft Movie, took $136,049 for a total of $9,744,568.
Seven other NZ films played in cinemas over the weekend.
Of those on their first run, Marlon Williams: Ngā Ao E Rua – Two Worlds did the best, placing at #10 and adding $32,426 on its second weekend to gross $143,101 to date.
South Island-shot post-apocalypse western, Forgive Us All, opened on 31 screens and earned $8,644.
The People We Love added $6,705 on its second weekend, for a total of $20,899.
Maurice & I added $249 from a single screen; Project Fiftyone took $93 and now has a total of $11,578; and The Rule of Jenny Pen took $28 to lift its total to $48,554.
Titles opening this week include musical thriller (yep) Hurry Up Tomorrow, with a cast including The Weeknd and Jenna Ortega; and comedy horror Final Destination Bloodlines, from the “bloody successful franchise” which, this far down the track, features pretty much no actor you’ve really heard of.
