NZ Box Office Report: 11 January 2026

There’s nothing yet challenging the dominance of Avatar: Fire and Ash, which added $667,482 from 116 screens to total $9,011,260, to date.

At #2, Amanda Seyfried and Sydney Sweeney in The Housemaid took $272,377 over the weekend, for a gross to date of $1,396,657.

Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson in Song Sung Blue took $224,668 for $817,684 and the third spot on the ladder.

Not Only Fred Dagg held steady at #8. It increased the screens it was playing on, from 39 to 46, earning $49,380 pver the weekend for a total so far of $306,202.

Prime Minister played 4 screens, earned $5,470 and lifted its total take to $1,084,953.

Pike River and Prime Minister have been swapping positions on the chart in recent weeks, with Pike River

on top at #20 after the weekend, adding $4,122 for $1,434,656.

At #24, Prime Minister took $2,916 for $1,089,490.

Two more locals played in cinemas over the weekend. The Tavern took $651 from a single screen, to lift its total take to $27,798. Tinā also payed a single screen, earning $18 to nudge its gross up to $6,486,693.

New releases this week include 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and the first local title to start its general release in 2026, Anchor Me: The Don McGlashan Story.
