Earlier this month Perpetual Entertainment commenced filming on an all-new premium factual series George Clarke’s Homes in the Wild for Sky New Zealand Originals to air on Sky Open and Neon later in 2025 and on Channel 4 in the UK.
The six-part one hour documentary series will follow the beloved UK architect George Clarke (George Clarke’s Amazing Spaces, The Restoration Man) as he embarks upon an epic journey to some of the hundreds of islands dotted around New Zealand’s coastline and Australia’s eastern seaboard on a quest to explore some of the countries’ wildest homes. While meeting an array of colourful characters and navigating rugged terrain, George will discover just what it takes to reside and thrive in an offshore island home.
Each episode sees George visiting a new isolated island, including Great Barrier Island, Kawau Island, Marlborough Sounds and Rākino Island. While some areas are home to hundreds or thousands, others are home to just a few dozen people, but all are home to some architectural marvels. Throughout the series, George meets incredible people who have chosen to live more sustainably and ‘off the grid’ and asks what does it take to live in a small community hours from the nearest city? How self-sustaining must a home be when supplies are weeks away by boat, and what might construction of your dream home look like when building materials are limited to what’s on an island? George is on a journey to uncover what it takes to call these wild Antipodean islands home.
Sky New Zealand Originals Senior Commissioner Nick Ward says, “Sky New Zealand Originals is thrilled to team up with George and Perpetual Entertainment, Channel 4 and All3 Media International for this exciting series that showcases resilient New Zealanders and their amazing homes.”-
George Clarke says, “What makes Homes in the Wild so special is that it’s not just about the architecture -it’s about people, their connection to nature and how they’ve built lives in some of the most remote and stunning locations. Every place we visited had a story that left us in awe.”
George Clarke’s Homes in the Wild is produced by Perpetual Entertainment and commissioned by Sky New Zealand Originals for Sky Open and Neon in association with Channel 4, with All3 Media International on board for international distribution.
