In this fun, punk-rock docuseries, non-binary presenter and co-creator, Perrin Hastings takes things into their own hands tackling the complicated issue of gender by travelling the motu to meet a diverse range of non-binary folks and gender experts.
Where does gender come from? What does intersex mean? How do we express our gender identities? What does gender-affirming healthcare look like in Aotearoa? Perrin will attempt to de-classify all of it in this bat-shit-crazy world.
Using interviews, documentary footage and animation, The Gender Agenda breaks through the typical fearmongering and hatred online by presenting authentic, relatable stories and information. The show provides a positive, practical resource for rangatahi who are figuring out who they are and serves as a great educational tool for whānau and friends.
The 5×10-minute series will release a new episode every 48 hours from November 7 on YouTube, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, and Instagram, with additional exclusive content available on YouTube. New Zealand’s Transgender Awareness Week runs from November 13 to 19.
Perrin has questions and has come to realise that gender issues are far too often shoved aside with very few resources available to those rangatahi on the same question.
“When I realised I’m non-binary, I’d found a label but what did that label entail? I don’t know, I still don’t in a lot of ways and I know I’m very much not alone. What I do know is that Gender is far more complicated than any binary or blanket diagnosis can comprehend.
Perrin is joined by many guests including transgender musician Hybrid Rose; transgender actor Awa Puna; Drag King and Drag Queen, Hugo Grrrl and Miss Geena; Chairperson of Intersex Aotearoa Tu Chapman; Community Activist Grayson Goffe; Activist/ LGBT+ and Mental Health Advocate Quack Pirihi; Entomologist, behavioural ecologist and queer scientist Keziah D’Souza; Samoan trans wrestler Leilani Tominiko – aka Candy Lee and more.
The Gender Agenda launches on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram, November 7 with a new episode every 48 hours (November 9, 11, 13 and 15). It received support from NZ On Air.
