The Day One New Filmmaker Awards 2024 is now accepting nominations for talented young filmmakers across New Zealand under the age of 30. This year, the awards aim to shine a spotlight on emerging voices in the film industry by expanding beyond its traditional film challenge participants to celebrate outstanding potential nationwide.
The awards will take place on December 15 at Auckland’s Academy Cinema, where three new categories have been introduced to recognise young filmmakers for their unique contributions to the field:
- The Spirit Award – This category honours young leaders with a proactive attitude and innovative problem-solving abilities in production and leadership.
- The Vision Award – Designed for creative storytellers, this award highlights writers and directors who bring fresh perspectives and unique worldviews to filmmaking.
- The Craft Award – Celebrating dedicated technicians, this category is for those passionate about the technical craftsmanship that brings films to life.
Unlike many awards based on completed projects, the Day One New Filmmaker Awards celebrate the individual’s potential and promise. Nominees do not need to have a finished film to be considered; a brief explanation of why the filmmaker deserves recognition is all that’s required.
Nominations are open until November 15, and supporters in the film industry, are encouraged to nominate promising new talent or help spread the word.
To submit a nomination, fill out this form by November 15, 2024. Further details on the awards and event are also available on the official website.
The Day One New Filmmaker Awards 2024 promises to be an inspiring celebration of the next generation of filmmakers, honouring their dedication, skill, and fresh perspectives in the evolving landscape of New Zealand screen.
