d8talk gets social with Gen Z

No matter where we come from, how we identify ourselves and what we’re into, the desire to find connection is universal. Starting on Valentine’s Day, and running over the next six months, a diverse group of young New Zealanders will take part in a dating conversation via a new social media project, d8talk.

Simply put d8talk is people talking about dating.

Rolling out across Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, TikTok, Snapchat, and Facebook Reels, d8talk will have two phases: Tapes and Diaries.

Tapes features clips from 38 interviews in which rangatahi aged 18-24 share their experiences with wins and losses, both hilarious and embarrassing, the lessons learned and any advice they might be able to offer other young humans.

Diaries will delve deeper into the world of dating for Generation Z in Aotearoa, following eight of the initial interviewees over four months. They will share personal vlog-style updates offering viewers a raw look into the roller coaster that is dating.

Check out the trailer on vimeo.

Audiences will enjoy this fresh, entertaining and endearing insight into the highs and lows of the young dating scene in Aotearoa. It’s full of anxiety, excitement, rejection, fulfilment, growth, trauma and humanity.

d8talk is directed by Joe Canham, produced by Georgia-May Russ, and executive produced by David Jacobs. The project has been supported of NZ On Air as part of their Within My Reach initiative for engaging young New Zealanders with local content and providing opportunities for new young creatives.

d8talk will be available on Instagram, TikTok, SnapChat, YouTube and Facebook.
