To nobody’s surprise, Dune Part Two took the top spot on its opening weekend, playing 113 screens and taking $1,684,930.
Bob Marley: One Love, still on 115 screens, began its exodus from the top of the heap, moving to second and adding $251,091 to total $1,839,244.
New arrival Manjummel Boys took the third spot. Chidambaram’s thriller took $101,432 from 15 screens.
Robert Connolly’s Aussie thriller Force of Nature: The Dry 2 added $6,250 for a total of $285,326.
Taika Waititi’s Next Goal Wins took $2,324 from 2 screens, and has now grossed $1,351,451.
On 3 screens, Annie Goldson’s Red Mole: A Romance added $271 for a total $7,999.
Kathy McRae’s 2023 Doc Edge winner, Pacific Mother, had a single screen outing, taking its gross past $4000.
Films opening this week include a pair of highly-contrasting titles from the UK. The Great Escaper stars Michael Caine and the late Glenda Jackson in what became her final role, while BAFTA nominee How to Have Sex is very much the preserve of emerging Brit talent.
