The school holidays kicked off with PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie settling into the top spot on its opening weekend. The dogs took $217,43 off 99 screens, seeing off last week’s #1 The Nun II, which fell to fifth.
Still at #2, A Haunting in Venice played 107 screens, scaring up $194,423 to take its gross over half a million, to $500,183.
Blue Beetle stayed at #3, adding $171,608 off 93 screens, also taking its gross over half a million, to $524,715.
The only new arrival in the top 10 this week was Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken.
River of Freedom played 27 screens, adding $67,109 to grow its gross to $182,770.
The long-running Coco Reo Maori grew its gross to $258,428.
A pair of NZIFF titles also played over the weekend. John Chrisstoffels’ Building Bridges: Bill Yourens Vision of Peace took $923 to extend its earnings to $11,639, while Glenis Giles & Clare O’Leary’s Geoff Dixon: Portraits of Us took $125 to total $4,101.
