Despite opening on 114 screens, Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (above) couldn’t topple Taylor Swift: The ERAS Tour, which retained the top spot. On its second weekend, ERAS took $333680 to reach $998,637 and will be comfortably past the $1 million mark by now.
Killers of the Flower Moon took $304,688 on its opening weekend, and attracted mostly positive reviews, albeit with concern about its ‘one-dimensional’ portrayal of Native Americans.
At #3, Leo played a much more modest 42 screens, ending its opening weekend with $181,431.
The two new arrivals in the top three pushed Uproar down to #4. On 109 screens, it added $86,301 to pass half a million and close its second weekend with gross takings of $523,067.
Other local titles on cinema screens were River of Freedom, which has now grossed $344,475; Taking Back Our Beach has taken $21,014; Stylebender has $113,052; and – on single screens – Coco Reo Maori, now has a gross of $259,976, and Building Bridges: Bill Yourens Vision of Peace $13,040.
