Despite having a title almost as long as the film, The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes had a very impressive opening weekend, taking over a million dollars to kick off its run. On 119 screens, it took $1,033,683 over the weekend to total $1,150,375 including previews.
The previous weekend’s chart-topper, The Marvels, dropped one to #2, playing 106 screens and adding $276,931 for a gross of $912,488. Holding steady in third spot, Tiger 3 played 43 screens, taking $185,229 to grow its take to $339,384.
Five local titles played this week, with Uproar the best of the bunch, holding on in the top ten and taking $26,492 from 55 screens. It passed three-quarters of a million, ending the weekend with a gross of $763,525.
Tom Sainsbury’s romp through the Waitakeres, Loop Track, played on 25 screens, adding $7,827 for a total $64,686.
Gwen Isaac’s Ms. Information played 11, added $2,754 and now has a gross of $76,151.
Alice Englert’s Bad Behaviour continued on 21, taking $2,425 for a total of $54,681.
Anton Steel’s Taking Back Our Beach took $1,263 from 4 screens, lifting its gross to $32,081.
