Box Office report: 19 May 2024

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes continued to reign supreme, comfortably holding on to the top spot over the weekend. On 107 screens, it added $527,782 to take its total to $1,593,215.

New arrival IF ended the weekend in the second spot, playing 100 screens. Over the weekend the family-friendly feature took $302,731 to total $372,907 including preview screenings.

On 102 screens, The Fall Guy dropped one spot to #3, adding $156,670 for a total $1,646,042.

A good number of NZ titles played over the weekend, led by the opening of James Napier Robertson’s Joika at #11. On 41 screens, the Bolshoi Ballet tale took $27,717 to total $29,569 including previews.

The Moon is Upside Down dropped to #15, taking $12,380 to grow its total to $92,925.

The Mountain added $4,593 to total $721,609, as The Convert took $678 to lift its take to $568,307.

Recent Aussie title Force of Nature: The Dry 2 and Kathy McRae’s 2023 doco Pacific Mother each returned on a single screen, and each took $66.

This coming weekend the battle for the top spot will be Apes vs Australians, with the opening of George Miller’s latest addition to the Mad Max universe, Furiosa, which was very well-received at its Cannes premiere last week.
