Over the weekend, The Nun II became the only title to remain in the top three from the previous weekend – adding $234,518 from 73 screens. The sequel has now grossed $737,616.
Blue Beetle played 89 screens, taking $225,771 to place second and grow its total to $308,996.
At #3, A Haunting in Venice took $219,073 from 107 screens to total $234,551.
New arrivals in the top 10 were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, arriving ahead of the school holidays, and Creation of the Gods I: Kingdom of Storms.
At #13, River of Freedom – Gaylene Barnes’ doco about the anti-vaxxer-led occupation at parliament – played 14 screens and took $41,038 to extend its earnings to $90,297.
Coco Reo Maori added $1,759 from 4 screens to grow its gross to $253,768.
Four local titles had outings on single screens over the weekend. The recent Red, White & Brass extended its total to $1,465,095. Three titles, all premiered in previous editions of the NZIFF, also played – Muru, Geoff Dixon: Portraits of Us, and Whetū Mārama – Bright Star.
