In November last year, Auckland Council’s economic development agency, Tātaki Auckland Unlimited, launched a “creative quarter” in the city’s western suburb, Henderson.
The project, now called the Te Puna Creative Innovation Quarter, encompasses big ideas for grouping so-called creative sector industries – screen production, video gaming, creative technology, music, and the arts – within a small and walkable precinct. In Tātaki’s own words, the project will be: “a circuit of creative industries linking Henderson village, Corban Estate Arts Centre and Auckland Film Studios in Henderson Valley. Radiating out like ripples will be integrated services and education providers, to create pathways and opportunities for talent and ideas.”
