Leviticus sets NZ dates

Having premiered at Sundance and played five other US festivals including SXSW, chilling new horror Leviticus has its home turf premiere at the Sydney Film Festival on Saturday (6 June), and comes to cinemas across Australia and New Zealand from 18 June.

The film is penned and directed by the brilliantly talented Adrian Chiarella and produced by the prolific genre specialists Causeway Films (Talk To Me, Bring Her Back, The Babadook and the Executive Producers of fresh Kiwi cult classic The Weed Eaters).

Leviticus tells the story of two teenage boys, Naim and Ryan, who strike up an unexpected connection. But when their bond draws the attention of their community, a ritual is performed on them, releasing a violent entity that takes the form of the person they desire most – each other.

Debuting to widespread critical and audience acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, and with a current 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the film was picked up by NEON following a heated bidding war. The prominent US independent film production and distribution company has previously backed such acclaimed, bold cinema breakout successes as ParasiteI, TonyaAnatomy of a FallTogether and Longlegs. NEON will release the film widely across North America and the UK from June 19, 2026.

Maslow Entertainment is handling the distribution of the film in Australia and New Zealand in their latest collaboration with Causeway Films, following the shared breakout success of the box office hit TALK TO ME and Aotearoa homegrown horror comedy The Weed Eaters.

Leviticus is a Causeway Films production. Major production investment from Salmira Productions and Screen Australia. Financed in association with VicScreen and Kojo Studios. Local distribution by Maslow Entertainment. International sales and distribution by NEON.
