NZ Box Office Report: 10 May 2026

A ridiculously large number of local titles played on local cinema screens at the moment, which is great to see – and another arrives this week.

In its second weekend, The Devil Wears Prada 2 again led the pack, taking $1,177,285 from 120 screens to strut its way to $3,321,874 so far.

Also holding steady, at #2, was Michael. Playing 108 screens, it added $886,363 to reach $3,750,940.

New arrival The Sheep Detectives took the remaining podium position, playing 114 screens and earning $326,773 for $354,078 including previews.

Billie Eilish – Hit Me Hard and Soft: The Tour, with James Cameron co-directing and in 3D in selected locations, played 63 screens to earn $135,786 and place at #5.

Sgt. Haane played 75 screens to place at #8, although its earnings of $50,261 and total to date of $169,136 are, one assumes, a good way south of what would have been hoped for.

At #12, The Time Travellers Guide to Hamilton Gardens played 27 screens, added $27,300 and has now taken $75,722.

Now in its 10th week, Tenor: My Name is Pati played 39 screens, taking $12,694 for a gross of $1,087,055.

On 29 screens, The Weed Eaters added $9,696 for $32,650.

Absent from screens last weekend, No Tears on the Field played 6 screens, taking $640 to lift its total to $54,616.

Holy Days took $424 from 13 screens, for a gross of $581,435.

On 4 screens, Fackham Hall with Thomasin McKenzie added $276 for a take of $697,113. Rebel Wilson’s The Deb took $256 from 22 screens, for a total of $21,445.

Openers this week include Chelsie Preston Crayford’s Caterpillar, and Guy Ritchie’s latest, In The Grey, with a cast including Henry Cavill, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rosamund Pike.

As always, our thanks go to Numero for the data driving these reports.
