To the surprise of absolutely nobody, Avatar: Fire and Ash closed its first weekend on top of the heap, its take of $2,400,924 more than five times that of the #2 title. On 113 screens over the weekend, the film’s total including previews is $2,757,297.
At #2, Zootopia 2 played on 3 more screens than Avatar 3, earning $410,616 (barely a drop on its previous weekend) to lift its gross to $3,106,561.
Wicked: For Good took the third spot, adding $120,808 off 91 screens for $3,563,046 in total.
At #17, Prime Minister took $4,079 to take its total to $1,071,510.
At #20, Pike River played 46 screens, adding $3,108 to lift its gross take to $1,401,084.
Playing on single screens, Tinā added $326 for $6,486,675; and A Minecraft Movie took $100 for$10,009,672.
Openers this week include The Housemaid, a based-on-a-book adaptation with Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried; another version of Anaconda, in which Jack Black and Paul Rudd attempt to recreate the original title; and Not Only Fred Dagg.
