With Avatar 3 hot to trot, plenty of other titles were mopping up whatever they could.
Zootopia 2 took what will surely be its last chance to top the charrt, for the third weekend. It earned $426,366 to lift its gross to $2,382,078.
Also holding steady, at #2, was Five Nights at Freddys 2, which took $194,447 for a gross to date of $413,877.
Opening last weekend at #6 and this weekend joining the podium at #3, Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar took $193,342 for a total of $389,338. As it did in India, where the film has taken 7 box office records in in its first 10 days, Dhurandhar increased its earnings on its second weekend.
Pike River dropped over half its screens (from 90 to 43) and half its take, from $21K+ to $10,165, for a gross of $1,390,107.
Prime Minister’s weekend take held up, with the film earning $2,452 to take its total to $1,062,342.
Grace: A Prayer for Peace added $90 for a total of $44,157.
Openers this week include James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, to be or not to be the last in the franchise – or at least the last made in NZ, if government doesn’t do to the international SPR base rate what it’s spent a couple of years avoiding doing – and Oliver Hermanus’ Cannes-premiered The History of Sound. It’s not hard to guess what’s going to top the chart for the remainder of the year.
Our thanks, as always, go to Numero for providing the data that powers our box office reporting.
