NZ Box Office Report: 12 October 2025

Despite some scathing reviews, Tron: Ares took the top spot on its opening weekend here, banking $321,456 off 91 screens.

Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another reclaimed the #2 spot it lost last weekend to for-one-weekend-only Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.

Prime Minister climbed to #3, playing on 84 screens – 7 more than last weekend. It’s now taken $676,528.

With the school holidays now firmly in the rear-view, The Bad Guys 2 fell from #1 to #5, and Aussie charmer Kangaroo from #6 to #13, and losing 81% of its take last weekend from $26,107.

Went Up The Hill began its post-festival run on 11 screens, taking $1,092. Also playing post-NZIFF screenings, Grace: A Prayer for Peace took $880 from 8 screens for $34,006; and Life in One Chord took $694 from 5 screens, for a total of $87,875.

Heading to the end of its run, Life in One Chord played 8 screens for $729 on the weekend and a total of $88,959. Brad Jackson’s indie The Tavern took $523 from a couple of screens, taking its gross to $19,437.

Not on their first runs, We Were Dangerous added $1,500 from a single screen to total $646,050. Also on a single screen, Mauri took $1,338.

The week’s new arrivals include comedy Roofman, with a cast including Peter Dinklage, Kirsten Dunst, Channing Tatum and Juno Temple; and the 50th anniversary re-release (doesn’t that make ya feel old!) of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
