On 111 screens, The Bad Guys 2 took advantage of the school holidays, ending Sunday with a weekend take of $455,941 to top the chart, and with a gross take to date of $1,424,972.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s One Battle After Another opened at #2, taking $258,098 from 99 screens, for a total including previews of $284,803.
Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, which played 109 screens, added $204,508 for a gross of $1,471,680.
Newly-arrived doco from Michelle Walshe & Lindsay Utz, Prime Minister, played 79 screens and opened at #6, following up its NZIFF outings with a $133,301 take over the weekend, lifting its gross take to $238,042.
Other NZ titles were thin on the ground over the weekend, with Life in One Chord the only other on its first run. It added $838 from 10 screens, for $86,430.
We Were Dangerous returned for a single screen outing, taking $1,555 for $644,550.
Openers this week include a re-release for Avatar 2, ahead of the arrival of Avatar 3 on 18 December, and – for this weekend only – Taylor Swift | The Official Release Party of a Showgirl.
