Two out of the three podium positions went to new arrivals over the weekend, with F1 The Movie and Superman being the casualties.
Weapons opened on a modest 83 screens, earning $367,143 from its first weekend, for $373,036 including previews.
At #2, The Fantastic Four: First Steps took $255,651 to push its gross to $2,135,155.
Freakier Friday took the third spot, $203,671 from 94 screens making its gross take $234,322.
The highest-placed NZ title over the weekend was The House Within, which added $1,933 for total earnings of $42,694.
After its very long run, which now extends to 24 weeks, Tinā played on a dozen screens over the weekend, taking $1,582 to push its total to $6,479,244.
Kōkā took $778 from 15 screens and has now earned $237,900.
Again on a single screen, The People We Love took $181, and now has a gross of $44,791.
After a single screen outing a few weeks back, Bellbird reappeared over the weekend. Its $105 take lifted its total to $478,143.
M3gan2.0 took $38 from 5 screens, and has now earned $200,968.
New arrivals this week include no major Hollywood releases, Nobody 2 – with Bob Odenkirk returning as a workaholic assassin – and, for those of a certain age and then some, 148 minutes of The Grateful Dead Movie.
