The Fantastic Four: First Steps opened on 102 screens and took the top spot after its first weekend, earning $906,827 for a total take of $1,043,852 including previews.
Pushed out of the top spot, Superman ended the weekend at #2, earning $317,461 from 115 screens on its second weekend. It now has a gross of $2,784,646.
Also pushed down by the arrival of the Fantastic Four, from #2 to #3, was Jurassic World Rebirth, which took $217,335 over the weekend, lifting its gross past $4 million.
Tinā added $3,879 from 12 screens and now has $6,451,072 here.
Kōkā took $1,853 from 26 screens and has now earned $231,073.
M3gan2.0 and Marlon Williams: Ngā Ao E Rua – Two Worlds didn’t play on the weekend, leaving The People We Love as the only other NZ feature still on its first run. It took $181 from a single screen, and now has a total take of $43,449.
On a single screen, A Minecraft Movie added $39 for a total of $10,006,765.
Hamish Bennett’s 2019 feature Bellbird also played a single screen, taking $12.
Titles opening this week include genre-bending The Life of Chuck, based on Stephen King’s novella – plus the first of the films having their premieres in the NZIFF, doco Kaikohe Blood & Fire and Curtis Vowell’s Workmates.
