NZ Box Office report: 16 February 2025

The weekend’s chart delivered a rare sight. All top three spots were taken by titles on their opening weekend, as the previous weekends podium placers (A Complete Unknown, Mufasa: The Lion King and Widow Clicquot) fell to #4, 7 and 8 respectively.

Captain America: Brave New World opened at #1, taking $734,823 from 101 screens to total just over $800K including previews. 

Opening at #2, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy played 113 screens, taking $664,118 and grossing $799,294 including previews.

Debuting at #3, Chinese animated drama Ne Zha 2 played a much more modest 33 screens for its take of $580,688, which grew to a gross of $774,174 including preview outings.

On 55 screens, Moana 2 dropped 3 places to #15, taking $18,982 for a total of $10,159,080.

The Haka Party Incident played 15 screens, taking $3,475 for a gross of $48,684.

Alien Weaponry: Kua Tupu Te Ara added $303 from 6 screens for $5,598. Also on 6 screens, Better Man took $160 for $565,574.

Three titles had single-screen outings over the weekend. Encanto Reo Maori has now grossed $2,298; Never Look Away has $125,076; and Maurice & I has $351,498.

Titles opening this week include Walter Salles’ autobiographical I’m Still Here, and Oz Perkins’ adaptation of Stephen King’s The Monkey
