A Complete Unknown held steady at the top of the chart, completing its second weekend at #1. From 105 screens, the film took $248,109 over the weekend, to total $842,337.
Mufasa: The Lion King clawed its way back into the top three, climbing two spots to #2 and adding $130,684 from 87 screens. Its gross is now $4,258,255.
Paddington in Peru dropped one place to #3. It took $120,459 from 109 screens for a total take of $2,509,949.
Moana 2 ended the weekend at #10, taking $70,170 from 73 screens to continue as the biggest on-release earner, with takings of $10,077,639.
The NZIFF-premiered The Haka Party Incident ended its first weekend at #24, with takings of $11,963. At #54, Never Look Away was the only other NZ title playing, and has now taken $124,012.
Titles with NZ interest included the much award-nominated Better Man, which has now grossed $555,332; Wolf Man, which has taken $143,600; and Lee, with $1,137,762.
This week’s new releases include a couple of music-based docos, Kent Belcher’s Alien Weaponry: Kua Tupu Te Ara, which builds from the 2019 webseries about the then-teenage band, and Bernard McMahon’s Becoming Led Zeppelin, made with the benefit of 50-odd years of hindsight.As always, huge thanks to Numero for the data that powers our box office reports.
