Having closed out 2024 at the top of the chart, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 opened 2025 in the same position. On 102 screens, it took $559,776 to lift its gross to $2,114,082.
New arrival Paddington in Peru took the second spot, playing on 118 screens. It took $544,293 over the weekend, for a gross of $779,460 including previews.
Also on 118 screens, Mufasa: The Lion King took $509,746, to lift its total to $2,657,813.
Moana 2 ended the weekend at #4, taking $394,777 from 109 screens for a total of $8,956,461.
Other titles with local interest include The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, which has now grossed $255,046; Lee, with a gross of $1,128,228; Never Look Away, which has earned $120,705; and Maurice & I , with a total take of $350,967.
As the sixth and final season of the TV show spun off from the original comes to a close, the film of What We Do in the Shadows had a single-screen outing here, lifting its gross to $2,601,319.
Openers this week include Edward Berger’s Vatican-set drama Conclave, with a powerhouse cast including Stanley Tucci, Ralph Fiennes, Isabella Rossellini and John Lithgow.
