After 11 years of dedication, the ambitious no-budget indie film Brave Love is finally complete! And the producers are thrilled to announce a special screening at Academy Cinemas. “It’s been a long journey, buried in animated backgrounds and Kiwi ingenuity, but here it is—a finished 96-minute movie” said producer John Calder.
Brave Love is a climate change narrative drama inspired by Katherine Mansfield, set in the imaginary city of Lagado from Gulliver’s Travels. The story unfolds 300 years after Gulliver’s visit, with Lagado now an oil-rich city ruled by eccentric professors who use their newfound wealth to realize their madcap schemes. “Our film brings a unique vision to life, combining literary inspiration with a modern twist, backed by Kiwi ingenuity”.
“The production relied heavily on innovative techniques. Imaginary world-building through computer art was taking too long, so we turned to miniature sets made of Meccano, complemented by improvised green screen studios. The result is a mock epic that we believe captures the spirit of Kiwi creativity—creating something remarkable out of limited resources”.
“We’re proud of our distinctive approach and believe Brave Love contributes meaningfully to the conversation around climate change—a challenge that the mainstream often falls short in addressing”. This is the first-ever single narrative film inspired by the works of classic New Zealand author Katherine Mansfield, making it a truly unique cinematic experience.
