Beetlejuice Beetlejuice held on to the top spot very comfortably, its take over the weekend being one in every four dollars spent at the NZ box office. Playing 117 screens, it added $270,649 for a total of $1,687,358.

Still at #2, Deadpool & Wolverine continued on 73 screens, taking $72,129 over the weekend for a total of $8,382,569.

In an unusual move for a NZFC-supported title, earnings aren’t being reported for another NZIFF-premiered title, Grafted, which began its general release on 12 September.

On 47 screens, Bookworm took $6,427 and has now grossed $446,458.

Ka Whawhai Tonu – Struggle Without End is down to 3 screens, from which it took $2,588 over the weekend. Its total is now $883,997.

2016 release Poi E popped up on a single screen, earning $450 for a gross take of $1,139,297.

With the school holidays beginning this weekend, the biggest of the films opening this weekend are very much of the PG family-friendly variety – Sony’s Harold and the Purple Crayon, Universal’s The Wild Robot and Paramount’s Transformers One.

As always, huge thanks to Numero for the data that powers our box office reports.
