Graeme Tuckett: We The South is a gem of local film making

I was sad to hear the Sunday News is no more, as of last week. Even a hand-wringing wokey-Wellington liberal like me can appreciate that the Sunday News was a tough wee paper with an unsinkable sense of humour – and it will be sorely missed.

Also, the Sunday News was always the go-to weekend read of my footy and sports obsessed mates. And since the News often included this column in their pages, I’ve always made sure to include a decent round-up of sports series and docos, in amongst the films and shows I choose to write about.

Which makes this week’s column a bit poignant, because I know my footy mates would get right in behind We The South.

We The South is a locally made documentary. It was put together over the course of a year by the team at Sky Sports in Auckland, as director Mark Malaki-Williams and his crew followed the Manukau Rovers Rugby Union team through the roller-coaster that was their 2022 season.
