The school holidays arrived, lifting Kung Fu Panda 4 to the top of the chart from last week’s second place. On 111 screens, it added $386,725 to take its gross to $1,686,066.
Dropping one spot to #2, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire played 96 screens, taking $336,263 over the weekend for a total take of $2,632,273.
In third, new arrival Civil War (above) played as more modest 85 screens. Alex Garland’s thriller took $218,771 for a total $223,845 including previews.
Dropping one spot to #8, Rachel House’s The Mountain played on 104 screens, taking $73,066 to total $398,449. On present form, it’ll struggle to reach half a million.
Lee Tamahori’s The Convert passed half a million last week. This weekend it added $22,989 from 57 screens and has now grossed $524,522.
Another member of the half million club, Julia Parnell’s 2020 doco SIX60: Till the Lights Go Out, had a single screen outing, taking its gross earnings to $535,441.
Openers this week include Luca Guadagnino’s well-reviewed tennis drama Challengers, and Barnaby Thompson’s Noël Coward doco Mad About The Boy.
