The Easter weekend box office was a battle of the giants, but only within one film. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, opening on a modest 90 screens, bashed and bruised its way to an $1,254,830.
The arrival pushed Dune: Part Two down to second, where – still on 100 screens – it took $340,281 to lift its total to $5,519,216.
Holding on to the third spot, Britcom Wicked Little Letters, on 97 screens, added $225,949 to gross $721,629.
Rachel House’s The Mountain, which placed at #6 on its opening weekend, played 105 screens and found some love, taking $115,484 for a total of $153,312 including previews.
At #8, The Convert took $65,875 from 87 screens, for a gross of $423,314.
Force of Nature: The Dry 2 was down to 3 screens, and has now grossed $294,304.
Red Mole: A Romance also played 3 screens, taking $58. It’s now grossed $10,166.
Opening this week is Kung Fu Panda 4, plus others including The First Omen – a relatively rare occurrence of a Disney film with an R16 sticker.
