Although no films have managed to crack the $1m mark this year, 5 have crossed 500k – the only other year we achieved that was in 2016. Maurice & I is looking like it might just cross that mark too.

On a standard list of sales estimates for any feature, NZ is so insignificant. ANZ as a territory is not a money maker. There’s fuck all money to be made here, so people need to stop prioritising the local market and defending poor performance. If producers are encouraged to make movies that travel internationally the NZFC might actually get a return on their equity investment, and then they can fund more films!
