Hopefully TINĀ is enough to secure the domestic rebate as well – the film is about NZ$200K away from recouping it’s entire production budget through an NZ theatrical release. Obviously GST, the exhibitor’s and distributor’s cuts needs to come off the total BO, but it’s still a good case for the domestic rebate.

The challenge is that there won’t be another film like TINĀ for a long time, no matter what anyone says. Just look at THE RULE OF JENNY PENN – it has completely bombed locally, but that doesn’t mean it didn’t do well internationally. The bias towards a local theatrical release as the mesaure of success is incredibly outdated and dangerous.

If we focussed more on international sales revenue we wouldn’t have to wait another 8 years for a success story.
