DESCRIPTION:Share the Knowledge is proud to announce our new course\, SCRIPT EDITING FOR PRODUCERS. \nScript Editing for Producers is a multi-day workshop that equips film producers with the essential skills to develop original and authentic screen stories. In this workshop\, you will learn how to strengthen your script development skillset\, how to choose screenplays and articulate their vision\, explore the development process with creatives\, and how to provide feedback that will advance the project. \nThe course will be led by the acclaimed script advisor/doctor/editor\, Claire Dobbin! \nApplications are open now until Friday 31 May\, 5pm. \nThis workshop is designed to enable producers to engage deeply with screen stories using the language of script development and to recognise when a script is working\, when it is not\, and what to do about it. At its conclusion\, producers should feel confident about how to assess the potential of a screenplay\, how to discuss the screenplay with the writer\, how to put together the right development strategy\, how to constantly consider ways in which the writer could make stronger choices and how to assess and elevate each draft. \nUnderstanding development and the process by which a good screenplay becomes great is an essential part of every producers’ toolkit because a producer who understands development will always be ahead of the curve. \nThis workshop will run as two separate modules. \nThe first is for experienced producers (minimum of one producer credit\, either feature film or TV series) looking for a refresher course or upskilling or just the opportunity to talk about how screenplays work how producers manage script development. Course runs Friday 21 June – Monday 24 June. DESCRIPTION:This is the first year of the NZCS Still Stories Exhibition\, a limited exhibition of selected still photographs captured by cinematographers; inspired by the unprecedented success of the American Cinematographer Society’s “Stories in a Single Frame” exhibition\, which showcased some truly remarkable images. \nThis exhibition brings a special challenge for cinematographers — to distil a powerful narrative down to a single frame. You can either start capturing new photos or sift through your archive of images. \nExhibited prints will be available for purchase\, with proceeds evenly distributed between the cinematographer and supporting the various educational initiatives provided by NZCS nationwide. \nHow to enter \n\nFill out an entry form for each image (maximum two entries) and pay the entry fee.\nEmail your submission to eo@nzcine.com quoting the entry/invoice number and any notes about the image.\nSubmit your entry by 31 May 2024 to be eligible.

There is nothing quite like it. \nOver 500 teams of filmmakers enter each year with just 48 hours to write\, shoot and cut a film with a given genre and some random elements. Filmmakers compete for awards and the title of Grand National Champion\, culminating in a Grand Final event. \nAround 10\,000 shorts have been produced for 48Hours over the years. This will be the Vista Foundation’s fifth year as the naming sponsor of the competition. The Vista Foundation\, NZ Film Commission and the 48Hours kaupapa are aligned\, with a shared vision of supporting filmmaking talent in Aotearoa.

Can they find peace with each other\, or are they bound to repeat the roles they’ve always played? \nBodies of Water is a project exploring the intricacies of maternal relationships in a world that often defines motherhood through a narrow lens. \nDirected Shelley Waddams graduated from Unitec in 2017. Her acting credits include Shortland Street\, Rings of Power and Our Flag Means Death. Shelley has directed the award winning short film Hand In Hand\, which was funded by Someday Stories (now Day One). Shelley currently works as full time writer on the story table at Shortland Street\, where she storylines and writes dialogue scripts. Bodies of Water will be her second short film.

DESCRIPTION:Siggraph Asia has an open call for XR experiences.\n\nExtended Reality (XR) is an umbrella term for augmented (AR)\, mixed (MR) and virtual reality (VR) experiences. Based on the reality-virtuality continuum first proposed by Milgram\, it covers the spectrum of immersion from completely physical to completely virtual.\n\n\n\nWe welcome submissions that push the boundaries of XR technology in research\, development and content creation to offer novel experiences to attendees for the SIGGRAPH Asia 2024 XR Program. This includes state-of-the-art XR for interactive technologies\, immersive installation and experiences\, storytelling\, creative expression\, novel displays\, collaborative tools\, assistive technologies\, and any societally and scientifically impactful solutions\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThere will be 2 categories of submission for SIGGRAPH ASIA 2024 XR Program this year.\n\n\n\n  \nCategory 1: Like past years\, we welcome XR Demo submissions that are state-of-the-art\, highly novel\, and presents attendees with demonstrations that they have never experienced before. The main requirements are: \n\nMust present a novel experience\, either in the form of an application or artefact\nProperly defined space and equipment required\nAt least one presenter present at all times\nIt can be any form of XR and its interaction with other sensory modalities (touch\, sound\, smell and taste)\n\n\n\n\n\nCategory 2: We welcome XR Theater submissions\, which are immersive cinematic storytelling and narrative experiences that can be viewed in a VR display theater-like setting. This submission focuses on the quality of the content (story\, visual representation\, etc) rather than the novelty in the research. The main requirements are: \n\nIt is either a seated or standing experience. Physical walking or wide spatial interaction is not possible due to limited space.\nIt works in a small space with a consumer headset without any custom device.\nIt can be demonstrated without the presence of a presenter.\nIt is primarily VR using standard VR hardware (e.g. Meta Quest). AR/MR submissions are inadvisable unless they obey the aforementioned requirement.\n\nSubmissions close 20 June \nSIGGRAPH Asia runs in Tokyo 3-6 December
