AI produces slop and always will produce slop no matter how ‘good’ it becomes.

Whilst this might be tailor-made for the advertising industry and a large proportion of the film industry, it has no role to play in Cinema.

Don’t conflate technology with progress.

‘AI is a global thing and a small group of people in New Zealand objecting to it won’t make any difference to its progress – except to get left further behind as it advances.’ I think you’ll find that there is fairly robust opposition to the use of generative AI in screen story-telling internationally.

The opposition is real enough that projects are going out of their way to assert that ‘No AI was used in the making of this film/programme/TVC’. The recent Super Bowl Pepsi TVC had a behind-the-scenes crew on board, specifically to demonstrate that the shooting and VFX were conventionally done. This is because of backlashes to AI use in various advertising campaigns.
